News /USTICA. Cooperation between Sicilian Amp: a common protocol to study

It was held on 10.02.2014 a meeting between the AMP " Ustica ", " Egadi " and " Capo Gallo - Island of the Females " and the University of Palermo and Bari and the National Research Council ( CNR) . The meeting was aimed at the coordination of protocols for monitoring biodiversity scientifically valid , but also standardized and harmonized between the three AMP . The meeting was attended by researchers who have experience in scientific research and monitoring , particularly in Ustica and Capo Gallo , who directed the Managing Bodies of MPAs towards environmental indicators that could be useful for management purposes . Only through monitoring activities, MPAs can check the status of the environment and its resources (including fisheries ) , and understand any changes that then inform management decisions .
The three AMP also adhere to a national project run by Federparchi with the Ministry of Environment, which aims to collect all the scientific studies made in the AMP since 2005 , and also to create common protocols between the 27 AMP Italian .
Finally , on the occasion of this meeting, the Managing Bodies of the three AMP discussed the desirability of a common protocol between 6 AMP Sicily ( besides the three mentioned above, there are also the Cyclops Islands , the Pelagie Islands and the Plemmirio ) . This protocol is intended to create a network of Sicilian AMP " says Dr. Giuseppe Di Carlo , Director of the AMP Ustica Island " that in effect would be the first regional network of AMP and would cooperazioone and an instrument of cooperation between the major three AMP . The AMP " Ustica Island " is ridigendo an agreement with the ' University of Palermo and CNR - adds the director - which is also an important tool to start a collaboration with local scientific institutions that historically give support to PMI .
