MPA / ZoningZone A - No take Zone

This Zone covers about 60 ha from the northern point of Punta Spalmatore until Punta Megna, for about 1.5 km. The protection level of this zone allows for complete recovery of fish stocks and marine ecosystems, away from human impact. No human activity is allowed in this zone, including fisheries, diving, boating, with the exception of swimming from the shore.

Zone B - Buffer Zone

This Zone extendes 3 miles out at sea, covering about 8000 ha in the northern part of the island from Punta Cavazzi a Punta Omo Morto. This Zone is named “buffer zone” as it surrounds the no-take zone. In this area, the removal or collection of any living form (animal or plant) is prohibited. All other activities, including fisheries, boating and diving are regulated by the MPA management authority.

Zone C - Open (or peripheral) Zone

This Zone is located on the southern coast of the Island and it cover about 8000 ha. Activities and extractions are allowed, including professional and recreational fisheries, but are regulated by the MPA management authority.
